Charles E. "Ed" Halsema Jr., age 67 of Monticello, Indiana, died unexpectedly at 8:22 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2025, in the Indiana University Hospital of Indianapolis, with his family by his side.
Ed was born on Thursday, July 18, 1957, in Monticello, Indiana, to Charles E. "Chuck" Halsema Sr. and Mary Mildred "Millie" (Summers) Halsema. They both preceded him in death.
On Saturday, July 10, 1993, in Lake Shafer Christian Center Church Monticello, Indiana, he married Debbie Stearns. She survives.
Ed was a 1975 graduate of the North White High School of Monon, Indiana. He installed carpet most of his life and retired from Metal Fab of Buffalo, Indiana. Ed was avid fisherman, loved playing guitar, and riding his Harley Davidson. One of Ed's crowning moments was bowling a perfect "300" game here in Monticello, Indiana. He enjoyed golfing every chance he could. Ed was an aspiring pit master and a true chef at heart. Ed was a huge family man, and he especially loved his grand and great grandkids.
Ed is survived by wife, Debbie Halsema of Monticello, Indiana, children, Chris (wife Billie) Stearns of Chalmers, Indiana and Kelly Miller of Monticello, Indiana, grandchildren, Cade Clark of Idaville, Indiana, Maylynn (husband Evan) Colegrove of Peru, Indiana, Chelsea (husband Jeff) Williams of Wolcott, Indiana, Tiffany (husband Alex) Jones of Indianapolis, Indiana, Peyton Stagge of (stationed) South Korea, and Dustin Stagge of Chalmers, Indiana, ten (10) great-grandchildren, sister, Connie Jo (Paul) King of Fort Worth, Texas, brother, David C. (wife Nancy) Halsema of Indianapolis, Indiana, step-brother, Edwin B. (wife Vickie) Quasebarth of Monticello, Indiana, sisters-in-law, Donna Purgett of Monticello, Indiana, Dee (husband Mike "Beans") Williams of Monticello, Indiana, Carol D. Brady of Monticello (Norway), Indiana, and Dawn "Hoodie" Davis of Idaville, Indiana. numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. "Chuck, Mary Mildred "Millie" Halsema, and stepmother, Iva Jean Halsema, stepbrother, Gary Quasebarth.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.
A memorial celebration of life will be at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Pastor Jullian Herrera.
A private family burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 601 Gordon Rd., Monticello, Indiana 47960. C/O Halsema family.
