Connie Mae
Gannon
May 24, 1938 – July 30, 2025
Connie Mae (nee Becht) Gannon, age 87 years of Monticello, Indiana; mother, creative writer and friend …. died at 6:06p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2025 at White Oaks Health Campus surrounded by her family.
She was born in Lafayette, Indiana on Tuesday, May 24. 1938 to Charles Andrew "Pete" Becht and Ethel Irene (Delzell) Becht. They both preceded her in death.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Monticello in 1956 and lived most of her life in Monticello, Alexandria, Virginia, Chicago and the suburbs on Bonita Springs, Florida.
On December 8, 1956, Connie married Clyde M. Lytle and from whom she divorced in 1974. On Sunday, April 28, 1985, she married Dr. Robert D. Gannon and with whom celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary before his passing on Wednesday, June 25, 2003.
Connie was employed at White County Memorial Hospital as the Senior Medical Transcriptionist for eleven years and previously worked in the office at NIPSCO in Monticello. Subsequently she was employed by the Navy Department/Mass Institute of Technology, had secret security clearance for typing classified material for MIT scientists which was ultimately compiled and printed in book form at the Pentagon satellite office. A thorough background check by the FBI was required prior to her security clearance. She also obtained her real estate sales licensing.
Connie loved being a homemaker. She loved to read, do floral arrangements, cook and bake, write poetry and search yard sales for treasures. She enjoyed long philosophical conversations with friends who had this common interest. She enjoyed helping others in need and feeding the many animals who always found their way to her door. She loved to study people and enjoyed the simple life.
Once, when asked what would she do if she had nothing else to do – she promptly answered, "Travel the globe, not the commercial trek, but the hamlets with their people and lifestyles realizing how very fortunate I've been to have been born a citizen of the United State of America to loving parents and raised in the wonderful 1950's and the freedom to be a Christian."
She was, by her own admission, a very complex lady. She jokingly attributed that to being a Gemini. She had a quick wit, a great sense of humor, and—most importantly—the ability to laugh at herself. Those who knew her well discovered a gregarious personality, paired with a quiet, dignified presence that carried no trace of pretense. She understood the nuances of social grace but refused to be ruled by them. True to her own description, she was a "free spirit" who valued independent thought.
Surviving family includes son, Scott (Brukentta) Lytle of Reynolds, Indiana; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; cousins, Betty Lancaster of Morgantown, Indiana and Gerald Delzell of Monticello, Indiana.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Marie Lytle; husband Dr. Robert D. Gannon; father of her children, Clyde Michael Lytle.
Per Connie's wishes there will be no public visitation or services.
A private family burial will be held in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery of rural Monticello, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to American Kidney Foundation.
Deibels Funeral Home is blessed and honored to be assisting the family.
