David Siegfried Bond, 84, of Monticello, Indiana died peacefully at 9:02 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at White Oak Health Campus Legacy Unit of Monticello, Indiana.
David was born on Wednesday, April 15, 1942, in Yugoslavia to Lebrecht Wicher and Maria Leinberger. They both preceded him in death.
On Friday, August 29, 1975, in the Lake County Clerk's Office in Lake County, Illinois he married the love of his life Ruth Ann Willhoite. She survives.
David was born and raised in Yugoslavia coming to Chicago as a young boy. He learned English by going to the movies watching westerns as much as he could. David was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam Era. He then worked several jobs throughout the years, ending up working with computers, where he met his wife. Once the kids came along, he decided to start building houses. Retiring from the construction business in 2001. David loved old cars and went to take college classes just to learn how to restore and repair them. He spent most of his time tinkering on different things and going to car shows. David as a child enjoyed water sports and spent several years going to Silver Lake in Wisconsin. His passion for water, took them around the central United States camping and admiring every waterfall he could find.
David is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Bond of Monticello, Indiana; daughters, Lisa (husband James) DeYoung of Crown Point, Indiana, and Kimberly Schiffer of Cabery, Illinois; grandchildren, Cassandra (husband Mark) Duffy, Jacqulynn Caroline Ronkowski, Jacob Allen Schiffer, Hannah Arabella Ronkowski, Nathan Andrew Schiffer, and Brianna Renee Schiffer; great-granddaughter, Vivienne Duffy.
David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A private family gathering and celebration of life will take place at his favorite place on Lake Freeman at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Helen Svonavec Memorial Fund for Pets, Inc. to provide medical and surgical care for stray dogs and cats and to help them find forever homes. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 3711 E. US Highway 24, Monticello, Indiana 47960 C/O David Bond.
