Obituary

David Lee Chaney, 83, of Monticello, Indiana, passed away at his residence at 1:01 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Dave was born on Friday, October 16, 1942, in Lafayette, Indiana to Louis and Anna (Rothenberger) Chaney. They both preceded him in death.

On November 2, 1991, in Buck Creek Church in Buck Creek, Indiana, he married Joy G. (Rector) Rogers. She survives.

Dave was born and raised in Lafayette, Indiana. He became a brick layer as a young man.  Dave later joined Indiana National Guard, getting called up to active duty in the U.S. Army. He returned home and became a Union Brick Layer for over 50 years with Indiana Kentucky #4. Dave was a former member of the Moose Lodge of Frankfort and Monticello, Indiana. He loved to fish, antiquing, and especially spending time with his grandbabies. Dave was a huge fan of family reunions and his fried green tomatoes. He loved the great outdoors and hunting to support his family.

Dave is survived by his wife, Joy Chaney of Monticello, Indiana; children, Tonya (husband Tony) Roswarski of Lafayette, Indiana, Shaneese (husband Austin) Ohman of Monticello, Indiana, and Shayla Chaney of Monticello, Indiana; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Keith A. Chaney of West Lafayette and Al "Bill" (wife Sandy) Chaney of Lafayette, Indiana; sister-in-law, Linda Sinette of West Virginia; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews, cousins, and friends

Dave is preceded in death by his, parents; siblings, Barbara Zimmerman, Charles Chaney, Larry J. "LC" Chaney, Nancy Mathers, Louise Collins; granddaughter, Rosalyn Snider.

Per Dave's wishes a private celebration of life will be conducted at a later date.

Burial will be private for the family.

Memorial contributions may be given to Shriners Children's Hospital or Riley Children's Hospital; envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to the charity of choice.
