Obituary

Fred N. Shidler, 72, of Monticello, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 3:18 p.m. at the Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana where he remained until Saturday, December 6, 2025, as they prepared his final gift to the world with organ donation, giving life to so many.

Fred was born one of thirteen children on Sunday, July 26, 1953, in Logansport, Indiana to Thomas N. Shidler, II. and May A. (Linback) Shidler. They both preceded him in death.

On June 9th, 1973, he married the love of his life Ann L. Bonnell.  She survives.

Fred spent his life deeply rooted in his love for family and the outdoors, particularly his passion for hunting and fishing. Fred's greatest treasure was spending quality time with his grandkids. Those moments together brought him immense joy, and he cherished every opportunity. His life was filled with joy, love, and countless happy memories, and he leaves behind a family who will forever hold him close in their hearts. Fred will be remembered for his quiet strength, love of the outdoors, and above all, his devotion to his family and friends.

Fred was born and raised in Pulaski County, Indiana. He was a 1971 graduate of West Central High School.  He worked on a dairy farm throughout high school helping to support his family.  After marrying Ann, Fred worked at Wilson Foods for 10 years until 1985 when moving to Monticello to manage and operate Pine View Golf Course.  In addition to maintaining the golf course for 40 years Fred also drove a school bus for Twin Lakes School Corporation for 10 years which he thoroughly enjoyed. Fred was an avid fisherman, had a true passion for his golf game, and most of all helping others.

Along with his wife, Fred is survived by; sons, Gregory "Greg" (wife Kami) Shidler of Monticello, Indiana, and Brandon (wife Nicole) Shidler of West Lafayette, Indiana; daughter, Amy (husband Josh) Long of Monticello, Indiana; grandchildren, Jalen Shidler, Avery Shidler, Jackson Shidler, Madison Shidler, Cooper Stearns, Layla Stearns, and Sydney Long; great granddaughter, Kaiya Herrera-Shidler; siblings, Iris "Ike" Simonin, Oren Shidler, Maxine "Mic" Smith, Dennis "Butch" (wife Judy) Shidler, Franklin "Frank" (wife Carla) Shidler, Patricia "Trish" (husband Mark) Dahlenburg, Jerome "Jake" (wife Karen) Shidler, and Lorinda "Lou" Grauel; father-in-law, Wayne Bonnell; brothers and sisters in-law, Jeff (wife Rae) Bonnell, Steve (wife Stephanie) Bonnell, and Vicki Pugh. His passing is also deeply felt by a host of extended family members who looked up to him as a pillar in their lives.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and May (Linback) Shidler; brothers, Thomas "Duke" Shidler, III., Garry Shidler, Ron Shidler and sister, Deloris "Dee" Morgan; mother-in-law, Mary Lou Bonnell.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at "The Shed" located within the Pine View Golf Course 5310 W. Norway Rd., Monticello, Indiana 47960.

Burial and services will be private for the family.

In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the family for memorial trees to plant on the golf course.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home, The Shed, or can be mailed to 1394 N. Francis St. Monticello, IN 47960   C/O Fred Shidler Family.
