Obituary

Gary Lee Quasebarth, Sr., 77, of Monticello, Indiana, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, at his residence.

Gary was born on Thursday, July 31, 1947, in Lafayette, Indiana, to Edwin Eugene "Gene" and Iva Jean Scott.  They preceded him in death.

On Sunday, July 12, 1981, in Monticello, Indiana, he married Tressa Kay Sayler.  She died on Saturday, August 10, 2019.

Gary was born and raised in Monon, Indiana, and was a 1965 graduate of North White High School. He then went onto Auto Diesel School in Nashville, Tennessee.  Gary married Marsha Copas on Sunday, July 31, 1966, and they start their lives stationed in Colorado, serving his country during Vietnam war with the US Army. After returning home he went to work Wilson's Food Processing, then onto Wabash National Trailer Company, and retiring from Ball in 2013. Gary was a life member of the AmVets Post #91, the VFW Post #2231, and American Legion Post #81, all of Monticello, Indiana.  He had a true love and desire to tinker with small engines and started his own little business (Making "Old" Mo' Better). Gary was very comfortable spending time at home, watching old movies, and listening to the country rock band "The Tractors". Gary was the happiest spending time with his girlfriend Cheryl Ash.

Gary is survived by his daughters, Machelle (husband Mark) Hamilton of Medaryville, Indiana and Melanie (husband Mark "Bud") Crystal of Lafayette, Indiana, stepson, Jeremy Eckert of Shamokin, Pennsylvania, grandchildren,  Brittni Kidwell, Breann Sturm, Makenna Lehrman, Marissa Chrzan, Bridget Eckert, Michael Hamilton, Josie Eckert, and Chloe Eckert; great-grandchildren, Braylee Kohe, Eliza Grandstaff, Ayla Kidwell, Caleb Kidwell, Everett Chrzan, Cooper Sturm, Brecken Lehrman, Isaac Chrzan, Isabelle Chrzan, Oaklynn Hamilton, Eleanor Chrzan, and Ryker Hamilton, brother, Edwin B. "Ed" (wife Vickie L.) Quasebarth, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin E. "Gene" Quasebarth and Iva J. (Scott) Halsema, wife, Tressa K. (Sayler) Quasebarth, son, Gary L. Quasebarth, Jr.

Gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Deibels Funeral Home, 601 Gordon Road, Monticello, Indiana.

Celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana, with Jeff Schefee officiating.

Burial will immediately follow with full military rites conducted by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard at the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery of rural Monticello, Indiana.

Memorial donations may be given to Happy Tails Animal Shelter.
