Obituary

Genevieve Deno, 94, of Monticello, Indiana (Sitka area), entered her eternal rest at 8:20 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Genevieve was born on Monday, October 13, 1930, in rural Goodland, Indiana to Marion John and Mercedes E. (Stombaugh) Miiller. They both preceded her in death.

On Tuesday, November 7, 1950, in the St. Pete and Paul Catholic Church in Goodland, Indiana, she married Raymond Edward "Ray" Deno. He died on Sunday, April 5, 2009.

Genevieve had lived in the White County area since 1963 coming from the Mt Ayr, Indiana area. She was a graduate of the Goodland High School of Goodland, Indiana. Genevieve was a housewife and stay at home mother until going to work at the White County Court House in the early 1970's. She later went to work at Monticello Kmart retiring from there.  Genevieve was a member of the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church since 1967 and was a devoted parishioner as long as she was able. She was an active member of the Liberty Township Home-Ec Club in her younger years. Genevieve was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and especially loved getting her family together for holidays, birthdays, and any other celebration she could.

Genevieve is survived by sons, Ronald (wife Lynn) Deno of Monticello, Indiana, Steve (wife Debbie) Deno of Greenwood, Indiana, John Deno of Monticello, Indiana, and Jerry (wife Karen) Deno of Wolcott, Indiana; former daughter-in-law, Mary Lou (husband John) Long of Reynolds, Indiana, son-in-law, Art Hook of Wolcott, Indiana, 13 grandchildren, Gabe (wife Polly) Deno and Josh (wife Lindsey) Deno, Tim Hook, Emily (husband Kent) Rhodenbaugh, Sarah Hook, and Kristina Hook, Jeremy (wife Jane) Deno, Jenny (husband Chris) Siemers, Angela (husband Tony) Tate and Edward (wife Jennifer) Deno, Augustus Deno, Darrell Powell, Shane Townsend, Ashlee (husband Steven) Wright, and Zachary Deno, 21 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, sister, Marianne Scripter of Monticello, Indiana, sister-in-law, Martha Deno of Brook, Indiana, brother-in-law, Rich Deno of Lowell, Indiana.

Genevieve was preceded in death by parents, husband, Raymond E. "Ray" Deno, son, Charles "Chuck" Deno, daughter, Beverly Hook, sister, Doris Lowry.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home, 601 Gordon Road, Monticello, Indiana.

A Rosary service will beging at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church of Monticello, Indiana.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church of Monticello, Indiana with Father Chris Miller officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hughes Cemetery of Monticello, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church of Monticello, Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the church or mailed to 543 S. Main St. Monticello, IN 47960 C/O Deno Family.
