Obituary

James Thomas "Tom" Mohler, 86, of Monticello, Indiana, died peacefully at 9:50 a.m. surrounded by his family on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, at his daughter's house in Otterbein, Indiana.

Tom was born on Wednesday, July 5, 1939, in Warsaw, Indiana to Frederick and Flora Wuanita "Nita" (Moore) Mohler. They both preceded him in death.

On Saturday, September 16, 1962, at the Monticello United Methodist Church of Monticello, Indiana, he married Dana Jo "DJ" Raderstorf; she died on Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Tom was a 1957 graduate of the Monticello High School of Monticello, Indiana.  After high school he worked for Indiana Beach making pizzas and selling them in the Roof Garden.  Tom then soon entered the Indiana National Guard retiring after 23 years as a Major.  Tom was a union pipefitter starting at Alcoa finishing his career at Delco Electronics in Kokomo, Indiana retiring as a General Supervisor of Maintenance. He was a well-known Umpire/Referee for Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball. Officiating the Little League World Series games for both baseball and softball, and he never cashed a single paycheck (1000's of them) from the Little League Association.  Tom was a member of the WNJY 102.9 sport casters for several years. Tom had worked for the Indianapolis Colts for 35 years as the Special Events Coordinator. He and Dana wintered in Haines City, Florida for many years. Tom was a member of the Amvets Post 91, VFW Post 2231, American Legion Post 81, and Redmens Lodge Tribe 518, all of Monticello, Indiana.  He also was a Past Master of Libanus Lodge #154 F.&A.M.  of Monticello, Indiana and was a member of the Murat Shrine and Scottish Rite of Indianapolis, Indiana. He had served many years on the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard and retired as their Commander in 2022. Tom was an avid fisherman, Karaoke singer, and could always be seen out on his golf cart, running the streets of Monticello.

Tom is survived by children, Michelle "Missy" (husband Bill) Hurst of Otterbein, Indiana, Thomas W.W. "Tee" (wife Beverly) Mohler of Plano, Texas, and Kevin D. (fiancé Autumn) Mohler of Monticello, Indiana; grandchildren, Chelsea (husband Nick) Broom of Davenport, Florida, Whitley "Whit" (husband Luke) Kincaid of Lafayette, Indiana, Kaden Mohler of Battleground, Indiana, and Emmalee Mohler of Plano, Texas; great-grandchildren, Kiara Motton, Kayvion Broom, Kyler Broom, Khloe Broom of Davenport, Florida, and Owen Kincaid of Lafayette, Indiana; sister, Mary Elaine "Spunk" (husband Fred) Reinhold of Monterey, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Tom was preceded in death by parents, Frederick and Flora Wuanita "Nita" (Moore) Mohler, wife, Dana Jo "DJ" Mohler, grandson, Brennan Mohler, sister, Ruth Ann Crutchfield, and brother-in-law, Phil Crutchfield.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of services at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19th, 2025, at Deibels Funeral Home of 601 Gordon Rd., Monticello, Indiana.

A celebration of life will be at 7:00 p.m. starting with the rendering of full military rites, by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard followed by Masonic Services, by Libanus Lodge #154 F.&A.M., followed by lifelong friend and Pastor John Westfall officiating.

Burial will be private for the family.

Memorial contributions may be given to AmVets Post 91 or the VFW Post 2231 both of Monticello, Indiana. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to the post C/O Mohler Family.
