Jay M. Anderson, Jr. 81, of Monticello, Indiana, died at 6:02 a.m. on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at his residence.
Jay was born on Saturday, October 16, 1943, in Logansport, Indiana to Jay Marcus and Mildred E. (Greene) Anderson. They both preceded in death.
On January 18, 1969, in Delphi, Indiana he married Gail Houser. She survives.
Jay was born in Logansport, Indiana growing up in Robertsdale, Alabama. He then enlisted into Alabama National Guard, later responding to the call of his country to active duty in the US Army for the Berlin Crisis contributing significantly to the prevention of war and upheld the peace and security of the free world. Jay had worked for and retired from Comcast Communication after twenty plus years. He was active member of the Redmens Lodge 518 Conawaugh Tribe, life member of the FOE Eagles Lodge 2570, and AmVets Post 91 all of Monticello, Indiana. Jay was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing with his brother-in-law and best friend Herb Houser. He will always be remembered with his quick and witty antics and always creating a story for others to tell.
Jay is survived by his wife, Gail Anderson of Monticello, Indiana; daughter, Jackie (husband Jeff) Ferdinand of Monticello, Indiana; grandsons, Mason J. Ferdinand of Lafayette, Indiana, Blake A. Ferdinand of Monticello, Indiana; siblings, Norma (husband Donnie) Waters of Robertsdale, Alabama, and Nancy Robinson of Reno, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Maxine Lovvorn, Roberta Robertson, Shelby Reynolds, Bonnie Tevis, Joy Haas, Gloria Sproles, Cheryl Houser, Lois (husband Bob) Duffy, Nancy Houser, and Linda Houser; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Jay M. Anderson and Mildred E. Halverson; son, Jason Anderson; sister, Betty Jo Bailey and brothers, William M. and Jackie Anderson; several brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Pastor Joseph Bein of the Chalmers Community Church officiating.
Burial will follow on Saturday, July 19, 2025, with full military rites conducted by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard, at Idaville Cemetery of Idaville, Indiana.
Memorial contributions may be given to wishes of the donor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to organization of your choice C/O Jay Anderson.
