Jimmy Joe "Jim" Maxson, Sr., 89, of Monticello, Indiana died at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the IU White Memorial Hospital. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
Jim was born on Sunday, November 25, 1934, in Monticello, Indiana, to Wilbur Walter Maxson and Dorothy Louise Tillett.
On Tuesday, December 27, 1983, in Monticello, Indiana, he married Suzanne (Jolliffe) Kauffeld. She survives.
Jim was born a raised in Monticello, Indiana, and attended the Lincoln High School. He started working at a young age on the Monon Railroad, and the old RCA factory. He then went on to help start the original Tru-Flight Arrow in the basement of the house. Jim finally ended up working many years and retiring from the former McGills Manufacturing. Jim was known for helping with the first McDonalds, cabinet builder for Ashlock's, and did odd and end jobs around town his entire life. Jimmy was a volunteer fireman for the Monticello Fire Department for over twenty years. He also served as a Reserve deputy for the White County Sheriff Department for many many years. Jimmy enjoyed morning coffee and wood working in his free time. He loved mowing and clearing snow in the winter. Jim had a huge heart and extremely loved spending time with all of his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Suzanne Maxson of Monticello, Indiana, children, Jerry (wife Allison) Maxson of Monticello, Indiana, Elizabeth Kather of Sun City, Arizona, Catherine (husband Philip) Mathews of Louisville, Kentucky, Karol (husband Rodney) Williams of Madison, Alabama, and Margaret (husband John) Leavitt of Pecos, Texas, daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn "Jacque/Sis" Maxson of Monticello, Indiana. grandchildren, Angie (husband Gene, Sr.) Frier of Monticello, Indiana, Bruce (wife Missy) Maxson, Robert Paul (wife Trina) Preist, Danna Lee (husband Eric "Beaner") Fischer of Monticello, Indiana, April Rose Rogers of Idaville, Indiana, Riley Maxson, Olivia Maxson, and Jacob Maxson, August Kather, Philip Mathews, II., Mary Cate Mathews, Victoria Williams, Julianna Williams, Rhys Williams, Andromeda McFadden, and Autumn McFadden, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur W. Maxson and Dorothy L. Woods, first wife, Rosalee (McLaughlin) Maxson, daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Rose & Danny Priest, Son, Jimmy Joe Maxson, Jr., brother, Melvin "Corky" Maxson, Wilbur Maxson, Charlie Maxson, Kenny Maxson, Robert "Bob" Maxson, and William "Bill" Maxson.
A memorial celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
Burial will be private for the family.
Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 601 Gordon Rd., Monticello, Indiana 47960 C/O Maxson Family.
