Obituary

Marion Lee "Skip" Barnes, 94, of Monticello, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 1:20 a.m. in the White Oak Health Campus, with his loving wife and family by his side.

Skip was born on Sunday August 18, 1929, in Washburn, Illinois to Jerry and Lila (Danhof) Barnes. They both preceded him in death.

On May 24, 1996, in Delphi, Indiana he married Jean (Marvin) Stevenson.  She survives.

Skip was born and raised in Washburn, Illinois on the family farm.  He worked as a truck driver and served in the US Army during the Korean War.  Skip worked for the Federal Warehouse Peoria, Illinois and Kroger Distribution of Peoria, Illinois and Indianapolis, Indiana.  He later started Central State Warehouse and was an Owner in DMA (Distribution Management Association).  Skip moved to Monticello, Indiana when he retired.  He was active with White County Antique Power Association and Winamac Power of the Past. Skip was member of the Hickory Grove Church and of the Monticello American Legion Post #81 where he served as a Commander for three years. He had a huge passion for restoring old tractors and cars.  Skip was known for traveling to the Tuesday Night Cruise In, in Monticello, Indiana. The true love of his life was his motorhome, traveling to Texas, Colorado, Florida, Wisconsin, and a trip to Mount Rushmore.

Skip is survived by his wife Jean Barnes of Monticello, Indiana; children; Lisa (husband Jeff) Buck of Indianapolis, Indiana, Scott (wife Robin) Barnes of Washington, Illinois, and Matthew (wife Dawn) Barnes of Indianapolis, Indiana; step-sons, Rod (wife Deb) Stevenson of Delton, Michigan and Eric (wife Pam) Stevenson of Monticello, Indiana; grandchildren, Matthew (wife Callie) Buck, Ethan Buck, Michael (wife Emily) Barnes, Katy Barnes, Alex (wife Mary Jo) Barnes, Kelly Barnes, Matthew Loren Barnes, Christopher (wife Patrice) Watson, Aby Stevenson, Lauren Stevenson, Luke (wife Grace) Stevenson, Danielle (husband Micah) Graber, Stephanie Barnes, Rob Barnes, and Rachel Fisher; great-grandchildren, Kayden Buck, Mya Buck, Elliott Barnes, Scottie Barnes, Nora Barnes, Lily Wilson, Anastasia Watson, Aaron Stevenson; brother, Don (wife Jackie) Barnes of Yuma, Colorado; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.

Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Lila (Danhof) Barnes; son, Robert Barnes; brothers, Jerry Barnes and Leon Barnes.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, August 11th, 2024, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Monday, August 12th, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana, with Full Military Rites conducted by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard and Pastors Ken Smith and Adam Morris of the Hickory Grove Church of rural Delphi, Indiana.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Salvation Army of Monticello or to the Hickory Grove Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to 601 Gordon Rd., Monticello, Indiana, 47960 C/O Barnes Family.
