Obituary

Mary Helen LaJune McClellan, 96, of Monticello, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at 6:20 a.m. in the Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare Center of Monticello, Indiana.

Mary was born on Monday, June 4, 1928, at the farm in Monticello to Walter Watson and LaVern Adeline (Benjamin) Hare.  They both preceded her in death.

On Saturday, September 28, 1946, she married Harold Burton "Bert" McClellan.  He died on Thursday, December 21, 2017.

Mary was born and raised in Monticello on the homestead "Fair View Farms" and had lived all but eighteen years of her life.  She was a 1946 graduate of the Rensselaer High School of Rensselaer, Indiana. Mary had been a long-time member of the Monticello Christian Church of Monticello, Indiana. She was member of the Pulaski Home Ec. Club and sold Avon for several years. Mary worked at the old Byran Manufacturing, the Monticello Assisted Living and Healthcare, A.O. Smith, and she enjoyed going and being a sampler at the local grocery stores working well into her 80's.  Mary always said at the age of eight she could catch, butcher, clean, cook a full meal, and clean a three-story house in one day. She was an excellent cook and made from scratch, known for her angel food cakes and noodles. Mary especially loved spending time with her family and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Debra L. "Debbie" (husband Alan) White of Monticello, Indiana, grandchildren, Allen R. (wife Michelle) Longbons, Donna M. Longbons, Troy A. Longbons, Roger White, Michael (wife Stacia) White, Lieutenant Colonel Brian (wife Kellie) White, Kyle (companion Alyson Sommers) White, and Joel (wife Nikki) White, thirteen (13) great grandchildren, eleven (11) great-great grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and LaVern (Benjamin) Hare, husband, Harold Burton "Bert" McClellan, daughter, Diana L. Longbons, son-in-law, Clifford "Cliff" Longbons, brother, Howard Hare, and sister, Alma Stevens.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.

A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Trevor Vesty of Zion Bethel Church of Monticello, Indiana, officiating. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery, Monticello.
