Obituary

Michele L. "Shelly" (Helms) Fishback, 49. of Monticello, Indiana, went to be with her Lord and Savior at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2025, in the IU Health White Memorial Hospital of Monticello, Indiana, after a six-year fight with cancer.

Shelly was born on Friday, November 14, 1975, in Monticello, Indiana to Evelyn L. Hudson and Robert C. Helms. They both preceded her in death.

On Saturday, December 17, 1994, in Monticello, Indiana she married Chad D. Fishback and together celebrated over 30 years of marriage.

Shelly was a 1994 graduate of Twin Lakes High School of Monticello, Indiana and a 1999 graduate of The Ohio State University of Columbus, Ohio, where she and Chad lived for nine years before moving back to Indiana. In Lafayette, Shelly began work as an X-Ray Technician at Unity Immediate Care Center and at the former White County Memorial Hospital.  She worked as a receptionist for the Evangelical Covenant Church of Lafayette, Indiana.  Shelly was a Program Chair and Associate Faculty Lead in the School of Health Science for Ivy Tech Community College

Shelly is survived by her husband Chad Fishback, of Monticello, Indiana; son Austin (wife Lauren) Fishback of Lafayette, Indiana; two adorable grandchildren, James and Jessica; a sister, Patti Cauble of Lafayette, Indiana; brothers Bud (Pam Bird) Helms of Monticello, Indiana, and Mark (wife Amy) Helms of Monticello, Indiana; mother & father-in-law, Carol and John Fishback of Westfield, Indiana; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jared (wife Carrie) Fishback of Peru, Indiana, Heather (husband Joe) Tyson of Noblesville, Indiana, and Nick (wife Cirsti) Fishback of Noblesville, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A gathering of family and friends will be10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.

A celebration of Shelly's life with full Worship Team will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Reverend Kurt Kincanon.

A private family burial will follow.

Memorial donations may be given to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation "JDRF" and envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to Breakthrough T1D, Formerly JDRF, PO Box 5042, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5042.
