Obituary

Nicole Charlotte "Nicki" King, 52, of Lebanon, Indiana, died unexpectedly following a motorcycle accident at 10:58 p.m. on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Witham Health Services Emergency Room in Lebanon, Indiana.

Nicki was born on Tuesday, February 12, 1974, in Michigan to Bruce and Vicki (Rockwell) King. They both survive. Though born in Michigan, Nicki called Indiana home.

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, in Lebanon, Indiana, Nicki married the love of her life, Larry Todd Lane. After a lifetime of being fiercely independent, Nicki had found one of the happiest chapters of her life. Those closest to her could see how deeply in love and genuinely happy she was and how excited she was for the future they were building together.

Nicki’s love for dogs began when she was a little girl and grew into a lifelong passion, career, and legacy within the dog-show world. Through Elite Handling, she devoted decades to showing, handling, grooming, traveling, competing, mentoring, and sharing the knowledge and natural talent she developed over a lifetime. Nicki was well known and deeply respected throughout the dog-show community, where countless people learned from her, competed alongside her, laughed with her, and trusted her with the animals they loved.

And then there were her Maine Coons. Nicki was proudly a Maine Coon lady, and her cats were truly her babies. Many throughout the dog-show community didn’t just hear stories about them — they met them, because her beloved Maine Coons traveled right alongside her to shows.

Nicki was the kind of woman you didn’t simply meet — you remembered her. She had an infectious smile, a huge personality, a quick wit, and a presence that could fill a room. She was beautiful, funny, hardworking, fiercely independent, wonderfully unfiltered, and unapologetically herself. Outside of the show ring, she loved playing darts, shooting pool, the golf games at The Eagles, enjoying a good margarita, and spending time with the people she loved.

Above everything else, Nicki fiercely loved her children and was incredibly proud of them. Her family will forever carry with them her strength, humor, independence, infectious smile, and unmistakable light. Nicki was truly one of one, and the legacy she created through her family, her animals, and the dog-show community will continue to live on in the countless lives she touched.

Nicki is survived by her husband, Larry Todd Lane of Lebanon, Indiana; daughter, Ashleigh King of Palm Harbor, Florida; son, Payton White of San Angelo, Texas; mother, Vicki Zeese of Indiana; father, Bruce (wife Kathy) King of Tampa, Florida; brother, David Amos of Tampa, Florida; grandfather, Duane E. Rockwell of Indiana; and special friend, Vicki All of Monticello, Indiana.

Nicki was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents and maternal grandmother.

A Celebration of Life honoring Nicki will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Boone County Fairgrounds, 1300 E. 100 S., Lebanon, Indiana 46052.

Burial will be private for the family.

Memorial donations may be made through the family’s GoFundMe or directly to Nicki’s daughter, Ashleigh King, at 1112 Omaha St., Palm Harbor, FL 34683. All contributions will go directly toward helping Nicki’s children and family honor her wishes and lay their mom to rest. The family is deeply grateful for the incredible outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.

Deibels Funeral Home is honored and blessed to be assisting the family. Memories, messages, photos, and condolences may be shared through the funeral home.
