Opal G. Reiff, 91, a resident at University Place, West Lafayette, Indiana and formerly of Burnettsville, Indiana, went to her heavenly home with her Lord at 5:33am on Friday, February 6, 2026.
Opal was born on April 9, 1934, in Jackson Township, White County, Indiana to John A. and Mildred Agnes (Weiand) Girard. She graduated from Burnettsville High School in 1952 and from Indiana Business College in 1953 as an Executive Secretary. She then completed the Church of the Brethren Ministry Course in 1987 and became an Ordained Minister within the Church of the Brethren in 1988.
Opal married Harold E. Reiff on August 9, 1953. During their first 2 years of marriage, they lived in Alexandria, Virginia for 9 months and Jacksonville, North Carolina for 18 months before returning back to the Burnettsville community where she and Harold operated Reiff Farms Inc. for a number of years. As an ordained minister, she served 20 years as a pastor for the Lower Deer Creek Church of the Brethren from 1986-1998 and Monticello Pike Creek Church of the Brethren from 2000-2005. In 2015, following the death of her husband, Opal moved to University Place in West Lafayette. She joyfully lived in the retirement community until her passing on February 6, 2026.
Opal was very active in a variety of community activities throughout her life. As a youngster, Opal was involved in the White County 4-H program. During her adult years, she was a member of the Jacksonettes Home Economics Club where she held offices of President and Secretary; served 10 years on the White County Fair Board, with 2 years as Clothing Chairman. Opal was a visible leader within the Church of the Brethren on local and district levels. At the Burnettsville Church of the Brethren, Opal held positions as Organist, Assistant Pianist, Clerk, Deacon, Women's Fellowship President, Women's Discussion Group Leader during the 1970's and taught various Sunday School classes. In the District, she served on the South/Central District Board from 1979-1985 and 2 years as the district Steward Chair.
Opal enjoyed traveling with her husband and visited most of the 50 states, as well as Europe, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guatemala, Panama, Aruba and Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mildred Girard, her sister Oleta Tam and her husband Harold Reiff.
Opal is survived by her four children: Howard (Howie) Reiff and wife Cheryl, Burnettsville, Indiana; Gary Reiff and wife Zola, Blue Ash, Ohio; Linda Aldridge and husband Duke Marion, Indiana and Teresa Walker and husband David, Petal, Mississippi.
She adored each of her 12 grandchildren: Grant (Lisa) Reiff, Michigan; Brittainy (Nathan) Hough, Michigan; Harrison (Libby) Reiff, Indiana; Taylor (Kathryn) Reiff, Missouri; Desiree (Neil) Hackworth, Ohio; Brielle Reiff (Kevin Witt), California; Alora Reiff, North Carolina; Ryan (Tierney) Aldridge, Colorado; Alicia (Daniel) Mueller, Kentucky; Jessica (Ryan) Cupit, Texas; Amanda (Isaac) Vining, Florida; Patrick Walker, Mississippi.
She enjoyed her 15 great-grandchildren and is also survived by her sister-in-law, Marjorie Reiff Yates, Florida.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Deibels Funeral Home, 601 Gordon Road, Monticello, IN 47960.
A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Pastor Mia Smith officiating.
A private family burial will follow in the Davis Cemetery of rural Burnettsville, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, preferred memorial contributions may be given to the UPR Foundation, Inc. Envelopes will be available at Deibels Funeral Home or mailed to: Treasurer, UPR Foundation, 1700 Lindberg Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906.
