Phillip J. Massengill, 74, of Flora, Indiana, died unexpectedly on Monday, March 31, 2026, at 4:21 a.m. in the Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital of Lafayette, Indiana.
Phil was born on Monday, April 9, 1951, in Lafayette, Indiana to Clyde Henry and Betty Irene (Johnson) Massengill. They both preceded him in death.
Phil was a graduate of the Frontier High School in Chalmers, Indiana. After high school he entered the United States Air Force where he retired as a Sargent with the title of Load Master on a C-130. During his service time in Vietnam, Phil earned several metals - including the Distinguished Service Cross, awarded for extraordinary heroism in combat. Phil then returned to the states as a machinist, which took him to several jobs and several towns over the years. Phil had settled in Flora, Indiana about thirteen years ago where he called home. He truly enjoyed making native jewelry to fill his time.
Phil is survived by his sisters, Phylis (Les) Condo, and Peggy Leslie both of Monticello, Indiana, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Phil is preceded in death by parents, sisters, Penny Field, Patsy Phillips, and brother, Paul Massengill.
A private celebration of life was held in Phil's honor.
Burial will be private for the family.
Memorial contributions may be given to wishes of the donor. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed directly to the charity of your choice in memory Phil Massengill.
