"Dick" Dodt
July 25, 1940 – May 2, 2025
Richard L. "Dick" Dodt, 84, of Burnettsville, Indiana, died and reunited with his loving wife at 9:50 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, in the comfort of his family's home surrounded by love.
Dick was born on Thursday, July 25, 1940, in Logansport, Indiana to Cecil and Rachel (Schmidt) Dodt. They both preceded him in death.
On Saturday, May 10, 1980, in Logansport, Indiana he married Freda L. Hitchens. She died on Monday, May 3, 2021.
Richard spent most of his life living in Burnettsville, Indiana. He served in the US Army in the tank division for several years. He then became an MP and got stationed in Japan. Dick had worked construction most of his adult life. He was an avid gardener and collected many things. Dick was probably most known for his small engine repair and chain saw chain sharpening "He was the best around".
Dick is survived by his son, Timothy "Tim" (wife Tammy) Dodt of Monticello, Indiana, and grandsons, Ty Hoover of Adrian, Michigan and Rhys (wife Halee) Dodt of Lafayette, Indiana.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Rachel (Schmidt) Dodt, wife, Freda L. (Hitchens) Dodt, and sisters, Linda and Doris.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana.
A Celebration of Dick's life with Full Military Rites conducted by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at the Deibels Funeral Home of Monticello, Indiana with Chaplain Rick Fay officiating.
Burial will be private for the family at a later date.
Memorial donations may be given to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
