Obituary

Robert Charles "Bob" Cheever, 80 of Monticello (Buffalo area), died on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Bob was born on Wednesday, November 3, 1943, in Van Nuys, California, to Charles W. and Helen L. (Bourland) Cheever.  They both preceded him in death.

Bob was born in California moving to Illinois as a little boy.  While living in California Bob's dad worked for the Barnum and Bailey Circus, owning the horses of a different color that was featured in the Wizard of Oz movie, and served as a double for Clark Gable while working in the industry. They later moved to Sheldon, Illinois where Bob was a 1961 Graduate of the Sheldon High School, in Sheldon, Illinois.  At 17 years old he went to work for Goodland Farm Center of Goodland, Indiana, where he became the service manager.  Bob later went to work for CSX Bids/Grammar Industries, Inc. in Lafayette, Indiana where he later retired.  He then worked for Jordan Manufacturing and Bob and Pat Kinser at Kinser's Bakery for several years. Bob was a member of the Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church of Monticello, Indiana.  He loved farming and working on tractors small and large. Doing a complete restore of a 1950 John Deere model B. Bob could be found watching old western movies and shows when he wasn't able to be outside working.

Bob is survived by his children, Jim (wife Cindy) Cheever of Lafayette, Indiana, Bill (wife Lori) Cheever of Monticello, Indiana, Maria Jacobia of Wichita, Kansas, Heather (husband Kevin) McCormick of Monticello, Indiana, Robin (husband Galen) Logan of Monticello, Indiana, Corey (wife Ashley) Cheever of Lafayette, Indiana, John (wife Allyson) Cheever of Monticello (Buffalo area), Indiana, Laura (husband Joe) Charlesworth of Otterbein, Indiana; 17 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Caroline Corts and Barbara Jordan of Winchendon, Massachusetts; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and  friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Charles W. and Helen L. (Bourland) Cheever; brother, Scott Cheever; grandsons, Kendale and Jameson McCormick.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

A private family burial will take place in the Sheldon Cemetery of Sheldon, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to Deibels Funeral Home C/O Cheever Family 601 Gordon Rd. Monticello, Indiana 47960.
