"Bob" Houser
April 19, 1948 – April 17, 2025
Robert J. "Bob" Houser, 76, of Idaville, Indiana, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:44 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2025, in the IU Health Arnett Hospital after a long and courageous fight with pancreatic cancer.
Bob was born on Monday, April 19, 1948, in Delphi, Carroll County, Indiana to Lucy V. Brady and Everett G. Houser. They both preceded him in death.
On Saturday, June 8, 1968, in the Idaville Church of God of Idaville, Indiana, he married Cheryl D. Tevis. She survives.
Bob was a 1966 graduate of the Monticello High School of Monticello, Indiana. He was in the Indiana National Guard for six years. Bob had worked at the old RCA plant in Monticello till 1970. He then went to work for Pepsi in Logansport, for over 42 years. Bob spent his summers helping the Monticello Parks Department retiring in 2022. He was member of the Idaville Fire Department from 1979 to 2012, serving as Fire Chief most of his career. Bob later in life became an ordained minister and started as the Chaplain for the White County Sheriff's Department under Sheriff Pat Shafer and was current Chaplain for the Monticello Police Department. He was a founding member of the Lifesong Church of Monticello. Bob loved spending time with his family, which encompassed most of his hobbies of coaching, attending kids and grandchildren's events, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and true family man known as "Papa". He was a faithful servant to Jesus.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cheryl D. Houser of Idaville, Indiana; daughter, Amanda G. (husband Chad) Rardon of Burnettsville, Indiana; grandchildren, Clayton (husband Jeremi) Ellis - Rardon, Keeven (fiancée Abby Allen) Rardon, Emmalyn Rardon, and Ethan Black; great-grandchildren, Cole Ellis, Cameron Ellis, and Jess Ellis; bonus daughter, Sara (husband Mark) Day; siblings, Maxine Lovvorn, Roberta Robertson, Shelby Reynolds, Bonnie Tevis, Joy Haas, Gloria Sproles, Lois (husband Bob) Duffy, Gail (husband Jay) Anderson, Nancy Houser, and Linda Houser; brother and sisters-in-law, David (wife Kay) Tevis, Mike (wife Kari) Tevis, Quinnie Skypala, and Linda (husband Dale) Hoover; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his daughter, Ashley E. Houser - Black; father, Everett G. Houser, mother and stepfather, Lucy V. (Brady) and John "Jack" Mull; brothers, Darrell Houser, James Houser, Herbert Houser; brothers-in-law, Travis Lovvorn, Bill Sproles, Robert Tevis, Richard "Dick" Tevis, Alfred Robertson, William "Bill' Haas; sister-in-law, Verna Tevis; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21, 2025, at the Lifesong Church of Monticello, Indiana (1100 Poplar Dr., Monticello, IN 47960) and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.
A service of remembrance and celebration of Bob's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at the Lifesong Church of Monticello, Indiana with Pastor Brad Stroetz officiating.
Burial will follow on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with full Military Rites conducted by the Monticello Veterans Honor Guard, at the Idaville Cemetery in Idaville, Indiana.
Memorial donations may be given to City of Hope Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the church, the funeral home or can be mailed to 2520 Elisha Avenue, Zion, IL 60099 In Memory of: Robert Houser.
