"Ron / Ronnie / Run"
Ronald J. Simons
April 21, 1952 – March 23, 2026
Ronald J. "Ron/Ronnie/Run" Simons, 73, of Idaville, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly at 10:11 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Indiana University Health White Memorial Hospital of Monticello, Indiana.
Ron was born on Monday, April 21, 1952, in Logansport, Indiana, to Harold Jacob "Jake" Simons and Louise Eleanor (Timmons) Simons. They both preceded him in death.
On Saturday, March 4, 1979, he married Pamela K. "Pam" Hughes. She survives.
Ron was born and raised in Carroll County, Indiana. He was a 1970 graduate of the Twin Lakes High School of Monticello, Indiana. Ronnie was known for his work ethic and his deep appreciation for anything with wheels and a motor. Ron had worked and managed Willie Motes Auto Parts for over 50 years. Still working every day, a testament to his loyalty and commitment. Some of his favorite memories were from his time in the Boy Scouts as a young man. Ron was a car/motorcycle enthusiast restoring several hot rods over the years. Ronnie especially enjoyed being part of the Tuesday Night Cruisers and rarely missed the James Dean car shows. He could always be found frequenting local car shows, cruising on his Harley Davidson to feel the freedom of the open road or tinkering in the shop. Ronnie had many memorable trips with friends. In season, it was not unusual to see Ron, Pam, and their German Shepherd dog, Jake in the van at Sycamore Ice Cream, where he was a regular. More than all these things, he loved his family.
He was an active member of the Hickory Grove Church of rural Delphi, Indiana. Ronnie also served as a deacon at Hickory Grove Church; this honor he valued and faithfully served out in his church community.
When he wasn't at work, Ronnie was often seen driving around town, checking in on people, especially the elderly. He had a way of showing up and visiting, bringing turnovers or Hot Wheels cars to children, grandchildren, and even adults when he knew just the right one would make them smile-and spending time talking with others about the importance of a personal relationship with the Lord. Those who knew him will remember his kindness and the way he cared for people in both big and small ways.
The one thing he didn't get done on earth was to learn how to fly a plane, yet Ronnie gained his wings in Heaven.
Ron is survived by his wife, Pam Simons of Burnettsville, Indiana; children, Dawn R. (husband Brent) McKenzie of Lafayette, Indiana, Randal Jacob "Randy" Simons of Burnettsville, Indiana, Andrea L. Silva of Burnettsville, Indiana; grandchildren, Morgan (husband Caiden), Mikel (wife Camryn), Kaden, Mackey, Maxwell, Lilly, and Allison; great-grandchildren, Daxxon, Evie, Vivian, and Emery; siblings, Virginia (husband Bud) Preston of Idaville, Indiana, Barbara J. Hughes of Fort Wayne, Indiana, brother-in-law, Steven K. (wife Leslie Fennig) Hughes of Fort Wayne, Indiana; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Martha Robb.
