Ruth A. Sagil, 70 of Monticello, Indiana, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 4:25 a.m. at Franciscan Health Lafayette East Hospital, with family and friends by her side.

Ruth was born on Tuesday, March 30, 1954, to Donald Evert and Genevieve (Gulczynski) Evert. They preceded her in death.

On Friday, June 10, 1977, in Geneva, Illinois, she married Walter J. "Wally" Sagil, Jr.  He preceded her in death on Tuesday, September 01, 2020.

Ruth and her late husband moved to Monticello, Indiana in 1983 coming from Carpentersville, Illinois. She was an extremely loving and outgoing person, as the light of the Lord that she had within shined through in everything that she did.  Ruth was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monticello, Indiana and was very well known in the area for her many years working at the Kroger pharmacy.  Among her many talents and interests, perhaps she enjoyed bowling the most and was quite good at it.  Ruth was a DJ in the early 80's for the old WVTL 96.5 radio station. of Monticello, Indiana. She also had a great love for cats and was known to have rescued many strays, orphaned or injured cats back to health.  Her two favorite cats, Mittens and Tommy, are among her survivors.

Ruth was indeed a shining light of the Lord in an otherwise dark world.  She will be missed.

Ruth is survived by grandson, Trey Murray; great grandchildren, Amelia, and Oliver; brothers, Fred (Lissa) Evert of DeMotte, Indiana, and Tim (Sue) Evert of Englewood, Florida; best friend soulmate, Donna (David) Bashore of Hebron, Indiana and Yvonne (Larry) O'Brien of Monticello, Indiana, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Walter J. "Wally" Sagil, Jr., son, Daniel Splawn.

A gathering of family and friends will on Thursday, July 18, 2024, from 12:00 noon (EDT) until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. at the Monticello First Presbyterian Church, 104 N. Illinois St. Monticello, Indiana 47960.

A celebration of life will be on 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Monticello First Presbyterian Church, 104 N. Illinois St. Monticello, Indiana 47960 with Rev. Stephen Quinlan officiating.

Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Happy Tails Animal Shelter. Envelopes will be available at the church or can be mailed to 601 Gordon Rd. Monticello, Indiana 47960 C/O Ruth Sagil.
