Obituary

Shannon D. Brooks, age 50, of Lafayette, Indiana, died unexpectedly at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was born on Sunday, January 11, 1976, in Watseka, Illinois, to James Ephrain Richardson and Katherine Sue (Sartwell) Kelley, who both preceded her in death.

Shannon spent her early years in Illinois before moving to Florida, where she graduated from Kathleen High School in Lakeland. She later continued her education at Ivy Tech Community College, earning her degree as a Radiology Technologist. She devoted a large part of her life to this field, taking pride in her work and the care she provided to patients throughout her career. Shannon found joy in the simple, meaningful parts of life. She loved crocheting, reading, coloring, and treating herself to the occasional trip to the casino. She especially enjoyed sharing meals with her children, tacos were a family favorite, and she was known for making enormous batches of chili that everyone looked forward to. Every Thanksgiving, she took pride in making homemade noodles, a cherished family recipe she passed down to her girls. She adored her dog, Baby, whose playful energy and loyal presence brought warmth and comfort to her daily life.

Shannon’s three children, Makenna Brooks, Averie Brooks, and Jordyn Brooks were the truest source of love in her life. Her love for them was constant and she carried that love with her in every chapter of her life .

She is survived by four sisters and a brother: Theresa (Bill) McDill of Dayton, Indiana; Lorrie (Doug) Mohler of Lafayette, Indiana; Cheryl (Dick) Nance of Logansport, Indiana; Robin Dunbar of Monticello, Indiana; and Christopher “Chris” Wright of Frankfort, Indiana.

Shannon shared a special bond with her niece Ashley, who was not only family but her “ride or die” best friend. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews, as well as great‑nieces and great‑nephews, all of whom held a special place in her heart.

Shannon will be remembered for her humor, her sharp sarcasm, and the way she could fire off a perfectly timed comment that made everyone stop, laugh, or shake their heads. Those who knew her will hold onto the real moments, the shared humor, and the connections that shaped her life in meaningful ways.

A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Historic Reynolds Elementary School, 401 W. 2nd St., Reynolds, IN 47980.
