Obituary

Walter E. "Walt" Hough, 83, of Monticello (Buffalo area), Indiana, died peacefully at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at his residence.

Walt was born on Thursday, May 28, 1942, in Gloversville, New York to Vivian (Pierson) and Joseph Hough. They both preceded her in death.

Walt was born and raised in Gloversville and was a 1960 graduate of Gloversville High School.  Walt later went into the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam era. He returned and started serving his hometown as a firefighter in New York.  Walt later moved to Indiana calling Buffalo home. He was a deputy sheriff in Howard County later finishing his law enforcement career as a jailer in White County for the Whit County Sheriff's department. Walt served as a Liberty Township Trustee for 16 years. He enjoyed his social life and fishing. There wasn't a person Walt wasn't willing to help and those that knew him knew exactly where they stood.

Walt is survived by his son, Micheal (wife Cherylene) Hough of Kokomo, Indiana, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sisters, Rosemary Newton of Florida and Margaret "Peggy" Lake Nebraska, friend and caregiver, Andrew Breedlove of Monticello, Indiana, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Joseph E. Hough, Jr., Gary Hough, Carol Sue Ederer, Michael Hough, Harry James "Jimmy" Hough

Per Walt's wishes no visitation or service will be held at this time a family celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Burial will be private for the family.

Memorial contributions may be given to Liberty Township. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or can be mailed to Liberty Township Trustee C/O Walter Hough.
