He was born Sunday, March 27, 1938, in Beaver Dam, Kentucky to James and Carmen (Yance) Blanchard.
Windy was a carpenter and millwright by trade and had resided in the cities of Hammond, Munster, Griffith, Lowell, then finally retired to his lake house in Monticello. He was an excellent mechanic and enjoyed working on everything. Windy was an avid golfer and could be found on the course almost every day during the season. One of his great passions was working with horses and had done several professional competitions in his younger years. As he got older, he gave up the true horsepower for steel horsepower and started riding his motorcycles. Windy had rode in almost every state in the continental United States and had owned several Harleys throughout the years. Known for his cut off T-shirts and unwavering little attitude he donated most of his time to driving children to the Chicago Shriners Hospital and being there for others. He was a member of the Murat Shrine of Indianapolis, a longtime member of the Third Wheel Patrol of Logansport, a recipient of the award of gold 32° Master Mason of the Libanus Lodge #154, and a founding member of the Knights of the Craft, Monticello chapter of the Widow Sons Masonic Riders Association. Wendell was a caring father, grandfather, and brother to many.
Windy is survived by his son Gregory L. (Kim) Blanchard of Stacy, Minnesota and daughter, Wendy J. (Michelle Van Sciver) Blanchard of Englewood, Colorado, grandchildren Ashley, Amanda, Carol Ann, Justin, Jesse and Heather. He was preceded in death by daughter Lynette and his parents.
