William George
"Bill" Duhnovsky
May 17, 1931 – March 10, 2026
William "Bill" George Duhnovsky, 94, of Monticello, Indiana, passed away at 3:46 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at his residence.
Bill was born on May 17, 1931, in Gary, Indiana to Bela and Margaret (Hein) Duhnovsky. They both preceded him in death.
On October 17, 1959, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Gary, Indiana he married Marilyn Irene Peterson. She preceded him in death on March 3, 2018.
Bill graduated from Lew Wallace High School and began a 40-year career with NIPSCO. His life was defined by service and a deep love for the outdoors. He was drafted during the Korean War and served four years in the United States Air Force, where he discovered a talent for archery—a skill he later took great pride in teaching to his children.
In 1962, the family moved to Monticello, where they raised their four children. Bill was a fixture in the local sports community, sharing his love for baseball by coaching and cheering from the stands.
Bill was happiest when he was outside. Whether he was fishing, hunting, trapping, or tending to his garden, he felt a deep connection to the land and water. He was the primary instructor for his children and grandchildren, introducing each generation to the patience of fishing and the discipline of the hunt. His legacy lives on every time a family member casts a line, heads into the woods, or harvests from the earth.
Above all else, Bill loved his family. His long life allowed him to witness his family tree grow into five generations, and he remained their steady, outdoors-loving patriarch until the very end.
Bill is survived by his children, John (wife Debbie) Duhnovsky of Culver, Indiana, Diana (husband Paul) Caccavo of Springhill, Kansas, Michael (wife Eugenia) Duhnovsky of Monticello, Indiana, and Susan (husband Bob) Wise of St. Johns, Florida, grandchildren, Shawn (wife Lyndee) Duhnovsky, Bryan (wife Rachel) Duhnovsky, Christy (husband Hunter) Olson, Nick Caccavo, Carmen (husband Randall) MacOwan, Ashley (husband Riley) Tolen, Garrett (wife Dayna) Duhnovsky, Shelby (husband Billy) Grant, and Abby (husband Kenny) George, great-grandchildren, Abby (husband Weslan) Mullet; Jack and Maddy Duhnovsky; Sydney (husband Connor) Craig; Trinity and Charlie Duhnovsky; Parker, Samantha, and Hudson Olson; Samara and Jace Jans; Caiden Caccavo; Isaac and Carson Purcell; Addison Maxson; Archie Tolen; Harper and William Grant; and Eliotte, Callum, and Junie George, great-great-grandsons, Holden and Houston Purcell.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Bela and Margaret Dunovsky, and his beloved wife Marilyn.
Per Bill's final wishes there will be no public visitation or services, a private family service will be held at a later date.
